Shared Headship Proposal - views from parents requested by Mon 25th May

As you will be aware the authority have proposed that they advertise for a Head Teacher with a leadership responsibility for both Bowmore Primary School and Islay High School - a shared Headship and not a joint campus.  This would mean that there would be little or no change to the general staffing and infrastructure of the two schools compared to how they would be as two separate schools but that there would be clear changes to the Senior Leadership Team.  The Head of Education, Anne Marie Knowles, put out a paper to the parent councils of both schools, to propose this change, showing how the Senior Leadership Team might be structured and indicating it's potential benefits.  This document is on the Parent Council page of this website.  There have been a number of meetings between the parent councils and authority staff to discuss this proposal and the latest meeting was held last night.  The parent councils now request that all parents who have a view on this proposal to contact their respective schools either by:  filling in and returning a response sheet, email, phone or even leaving a comment on the Parent Furum on the Parent Council page of this website.  Minutes of recent meetings can also be found on this page.  Responses must be in by Monday 25th May to be considered.

Once views have been collated, the chairs of the two Parent Councils will feed the information back to the Head of Education who will then consult with the Head of Service, Clelland Sneddon.  It will then be up to him to make the decision as to whether to advertise for one Head Teacher for both schools or to advertise for two separate Head Teachers.  It is hoped that the timescale would allow for the advert(s) for the post(s) to be published nationally before the end of term.
